stilt village, a day in the life of a local

With a remorque – a motorbike pulled carriage – we’re on our way to Roulous, a traditional village 12km from Siem Reap.

On arrival we make way to visit the local, bustling market of this fascinating village. We discover all aspects of the market and you get a taste if you’d like. A little down the road, we find the stilt village of Kompong Phluk, on the edge of the flooded forest in the floodplain of the Tonle Sap Lake.

Depending on the season this village is only reachable by boat. We wind down the river on a boat, along the houses high up on stilts and ease as it meanders through the flooded forest. Swimming is very refreshing, and along the way we spot various birds. Kompong Phluk can be visited by road in the dry season.

Lunch is enjoyed as guests of a local family living for generations in the region. Along the way we get in touch with some typical Cambodian trades, such as producing noodles, making rice wine, silk weaving and spinning, rice processing.

This will be an experience to remember! On our way back, if you have an Angkor Temple-Pass, we can visit the beautiful Bakong temple, the first capital of the Khmer empire.

Including full day transport per Tuk-Tuk (max 4 pax/Tuk-Tuk) and boat – English speaking guide – Khmer set lunch with a local family – Not included drinks and temple tickets
